Results from VanDyke Software's fifth annual "What Keeps You Up at Night?" survey of network/systems administrators indicate that most IT budgets are holding steady in spite of a sputtering economy. Findings showed that in the last two years while a solid majority (64% and 63%) of network administrators said their enterprises budgeted sufficiently to support current information security needs, only 24% in this year's survey answered they "sleep like a baby at night" compared to 33% in 2007.

According to data gleaned from the third annual IT Security Survey, 38.85% of respondents who intend to take action to become more compliant with Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI DSS), said they will take action within the next 6 months. Additionally, over 80% of respondents working for organizations that accept credit card payments said they were PCI DSS compliant, and 40% indicated that their organization has been audited.

Unauthorized access and network intrusions are holding steady in spite of increased time spent monitoring and maintaining systems according to the results of VanDyke's third annual IT Security Survey. The survey also found that a majority indicated that the intrusions potentially exposed sensitive information and had a correspondingly high potential financial impact.

In the second annual "Security Survey of IT Executives and Network Administrators", 41% of respondents from large enterprises with over 10,000 employees noted their organization's network had been the victim in the last two years of a successful intrusion by a hacker or other unauthorized person – down from 47% in an Amplitude Research®-executed survey commissioned by VanDyke the year before.
