NEWS YOU CAN USE FROM VANDYKE SOFTWARE® As soon as the 6.0 client upgrades were out the door, VanDyke Software engineers were hard at work on the next set of requested enhancements to session management, tabs, scripting, and synchronization. We are proud to deliver in quick-time the 6.1 beta releases. In tandem with the new software is an announcement about the sunset of CRT. A tip on using the new vsftp batch mode to automate file transfer caps off the issue. Thanks for putting us on your reading list. ------------- 1. SecureCRT® 6.1 Beta Offers New Search, Session, Scripting -------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Your Secure Shell clients are a hub of activity, giving you access to dozens, or even hundreds, of servers, and with that, a challenge: finding a lost session. The new beta release of SecureCRT 6.1 (also SecureFX 6.1) delivers search capability that lets you quickly locate the right session using a session name, host name, folder name, or description keyword. In addition, the new version saves time with new session management options. Several new SecureCRT capabilities help you streamline starting or managing sessions. The already rich tab interface adds right-click menu items to disconnect and reconnect all open tabs at once. Or, you can set up a session to run a remote command or application as soon as the session connects, enabling task-specific sessions. Keyboard-interactive authentication now allows the username and password to be saved, simplifying the logon process. Finally, a new option allows logon credentials to be entered in the terminal window, making it easier to script SSH1 and SSH2 logons. ActiveX scripting gains refinements for complete application control,
from accessing session options and the Clipboard to richer error handling.
Session options can be retrieved and configured, allowing you, for example,
to convert file-based session data to saved sessions. Clipboard scripting
functions New error handling functions increase your ability to detect and report errors when running scripts. Several fresh example scripts showcase new features, such as sending a command to all connected tabs. Download the latest SecureCRT 6.1 beta release today! Along with it come convenient, time-saving enhancements to navigation and session management. To make it easier to keep multiple sites synchronized, SecureFX 6.1 lets you store and recall synchronization settings using Quick Synchronize and Synchronize dialogs, in much the same way sessions are managed. Save, edit and select configurations from the synchronize database. And you can reduce synchronize setup time by using the paths from the active sessions for the synchronize operation. The SFXCL command-line utility becomes a powerful synchronization tool. Write a script to synchronize multiple remote sites using SFXCL with the command switch "/Synchronize sessionpath", and run it regularly using the Windows scheduler. New context menu items support navigating back, forward, to the parent folder, the home folder, the root folder, and the current folder in Explorer (local session). SecureFX 6.1 gains two options common with SecureCRT 6.1: the Connect dialog search and the ability to save username and password for keyboard-interactive authentication. License sales will be halted later this year. We have decided to concentrate on enhancing SecureCRT. All of us at VanDyke Software wish to thank our users past and present who were instrumental in making CRT a long-term success. In 1995 when CRT was first released, Telnet was a popular choice for remote shell access. Concern over the protocol's inherent lack of security created demand for Secure Shell and the SecureCRT product. SecureCRT is a multi-protocol application that provides a complete upgrade path from nonsecure to secure protocols, supporting SSH1 and SSH2 as well as Telnet, Serial, RLogin, and TAPI. CRT sessions and settings are fully compatible with SecureCRT. CRT installers will be available for download by existing customers. Effective September 1, 2008, new licenses for the application will no longer be sold. We plan to continue support for CRT customers through September 30, 2009. If you have questions about the availability of CRT, please send e-mail to VanDyke Software Sales at . ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This month's tip shows how to use the new batch mode of the vsftp command-line utility – part of the VanDyke ClientPack – to automate file transfers. It takes advantage of three capabilities new for vsftp in ClientPack version 6.1: the -b <filename> command-line argument, the include command, and the error command. You can search from the Connect dialog, disconnect and reconnect all tabbed sessions, and launch a remote command or application when you connect to a session. Scripting enhancements include support for accessing session options, accessing the clipboard, and sending special keys. Additional logon options allow you to save usernames and passwords with keyboard-interactive authentication and to enter Secure Shell logon credentials in the terminal window making it easier to script logon operations. SecureFX 6.1 provides faster, simpler ways to keep your sites synchronized with a synchronize database and the ability to use active sessions for synchronize operations. SecureFX also has session search and saving of keyboard-interactive authentication data. Context menu items let you navigate back, forward, to the parent folder, to the home folder, to the root folder, and to the current folder in Explorer. Here is a list of the latest
