NEWS YOU CAN USE FROM VANDYKE SOFTWARE® For your software upgrade planning, we want to point out the special upgrade pricing for CRT customers upgrading to SecureCRT®. Next, we show you how to use the new VShell® internal user database to avoid Windows user accounts for file transfer-only access. We continue to invite pre-beta feedback on new features in development, this time from SecureFX® users. We also call your attention to the SecureFX transfer queue feature. Finally, the VanDyke Software forums serve up good ideas on how to launch several sessions from one desktop icon. ------------- 1. CRT Users – Save Now by Upgrading to SecureCRT -------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------- Security is now a key component for remote access software. As announced in June, new product development for the CRT emulator has been halted and new CRT licenses are no longer available. We want to encourage users to consider migrating to the SecureCRT application. To provide an incentive, you can now save up to 40% on the purchase of an upgrade license. By purchasing an upgrade license to SecureCRT, you receive everything you currently have with CRT, including automatic migration of your sessions, plus the following benefits:
To purchase your upgrade license, or to download your 30-day evaluation copy of SecureCRT today, visit the upgrade page on our website. To buy an upgrade at the special price, all you need is your current CRT serial number, which can be found in the license letter you received when you purchased CRT. You can also see the serial number by using the "About CRT" command on the Help menu. You may upgrade with either one or three years of software updates and
support. To upgrade 25 or more licenses, or if you have any questions,

. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- VanDyke Software development is looking for feedback from users on new capabilities in the SecureFX file transfer software: filtering with synchronization and self-signed certificate authentication. Filtering with synchronize operations lets you define a named filter to specify what files or folders to include or exclude. For example, you can define a filter to transfer only graphics and html files when updating a website. A self-signed certificate is an additional authentication option. To try out and provide feedback on the SecureFX filtering or self-signed certificates capabilities, please send e-mail to . ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ VShell 3.5 for Windows now offers the ability to create users that are specific to the VShell server. This virtually eliminates the need to create Windows users just to allow file transfer access. A single Windows system user is required by the VShell user database to obtain a security token and determine file system access. All users from the database are treated as the system user when interacting with the file system. For step-by-step instructions on setting up the VShell user database
in a file transfer-only configuration, read the tip online here. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Queuing is useful when you need to transfer multiple files in environments where only a single connection is allowed. When you use the SecureFX transfer queue, files are transferred serially (one at a time), which prevents error messages. To enable the file transfer queue, select the "Transfer Queue" command in the View menu. You can now select files and folders that will be listed in the transfer queue window at the bottom of the SecureFX main window. SecureFX gives you two options for transferring the queued files. By
default, as files are added to the queue, SecureFX immediately begins
serial transfer. Or you can set the option "Suspend transfer To try the queuing capability in SecureFX, download the latest version from the VanDyke Software website. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A forum member recently asked if you can create multiple "profiles" in the SecureCRT Global Options that will automatically connect to the specified sessions as tabs. Todd from VanDyke Software Support explained that yes, you can launch separate groups of sessions using shortcuts and sub-folders defined in the Connect dialog. To do this, right-click on the Sessions folder in the Connect dialog
and select the "New Folder" menu item. You can then create Session1,
Session2, and Session3, etc. in the newly created sub-folder. Once your
sub-folder has the desired sessions in it, right-click on the sub-folder
in the Connect dialog and select "Create Desktop Shortcut".
Your new shortcuts will launch SecureCRT with those To read the entire post, visit the VanDyke Software forums. ---------------------------------------- The VShell 3.5 official release delivers three new editions that protect your FTP transfers with FTP over SSL. Also new are a Control Panel makeover, additional logging enhancements including W3C extended log file format, an internal user database, and a new remote exec RunAs capability. SecureCRT 6.1, now in official release, extends your ability to customize your workflow and automate routine tasks with new search, session management, and scripting capabilities. You can search from the Connect dialog, disconnect and reconnect all tabbed sessions, and launch a remote command or application when you connect to a session. Scripting enhancements include support for accessing session options, accessing the clipboard, and sending special keys. Additional logon options allow you to save usernames and passwords with keyboard-interactive authentication and to enter Secure Shell logon credentials in the terminal window, making it easier to script logon operations. The SecureFX 6.1 official version provides faster, simpler ways to keep
your sites synchronized, with a synchronize database and the ability to
use active sessions for synchronize operations. Here is a list of the latest
