NEWS YOU CAN USE FROM VANDYKE SOFTWARE® This month's newsletter aims to help you get more work out of the VShell® server and the VanDyke Software client applications. With VShell FTPS support now available as another secure file
transfer option, the first tip discusses VShell FTPS configuration.
We also show you how to back up and restore SecureCRT® and
SecureFX® settings. In the forums, we cover the advantages of using the ClientPack vsftp utility for daily file transfer tasks.
And from VanDyke Software Development, several new capabilities are now ready for pre-beta testing. ------------- 1. Tip: Overview of VShell for FTPS Configuration
-------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------- With secure file transfer becoming an increasingly important aspect of communication between individuals and organizations, support for an additional secure protocol has been added to VShell: FTPS (FTP over SSL). A recent tip outlines how FTP over SSL works and covers essential areas such as enabling encryption, defining listening addresses, and creating server certificates. To read the complete tip on configuring a VShell for FTPS server, visit the VanDyke Software Support website -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Knowing how to back up and restore SecureCRT and SecureFX settings can serve a variety of purposes. You might want to save session and global options for disaster recovery. An equally important reason is so that you can transfer those settings to a new installation on a different computer. Backup and restore are straightforward operations once you know the location of the Config folder where session and global options are stored. To read the complete instructions for backing up and restoring settings, with graphics and an example, visit the VanDyke Software Support Tips page. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- In the Forums, user BobW asks how to use the SFXCL utility to
perform file maintenance tasks that he runs from batch files.
Brenda with VanDyke Support suggests that for a series of
operations on a remote server, the ClientPack utility vsftp is
a better choice. vsftp is an interactive SFTP ommand-line
client that includes a "-b" switch to accept batch file commands. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- VanDyke Software Development is looking for users to test new capabilities in pre-beta releases of SecureCRT and SecureFX.
