NEWS YOU CAN USE FROM VANDYKE SOFTWARE® It's been a few months since we have featured scripting, though this time we've added a twist: scripting with the VRALib API, the newest addition to the VanDyke ClientPack automation utilities. For programmers and admins, VRALib provides powerful access to Secure Shell connections from within in-house applications and customized routines. The tips just keep right on coming, in expanded form for the SecureCRT® Connect bar topic. Then, VShell®) development requests your help in pre-beta evaluation of agent forwarding. This month's featured forum post opens a window onto the world of changing UNIX keyboard settings to meet your needs. ------------- 1. Scripting Corner: Scripting with the VRALib Windows API
-------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------- VRALib is a Windows COM and .NET interface that is part of the VanDyke ClientPack for Windows automation toolkit. VRALib enables you to script SSH2 connections in order to send commands, open port forwarding connections, perform file transfers and file management with SFTP, and manage keys. The tip features a sample script that demonstrates how to use VRALib to issue a remote command and save the output to a local Excel file. Read the complete tip on scripting with VRALib on the VanDyke Software website. ------------------------------------------------------- The Connect bar tip has been augmented to include information that shows how you can use the /S switch in SecureCRT and SecureFX® to reference a session inside a Connect dialog sub-folder instead of just at the top level. This change was prompted by feedback from a member of the VanDyke Software forums. To read the revised web tip, visit the VanDyke Software online
support section: VanDyke Software is looking for volunteers to provide feedback on agent forwarding in VShell for Windows. Agent forwarding allows clients to authenticate to multiple Secure Shell servers without having the user's private key stored on each server. If you would like to test agent forwarding support in VShell for Windows, please send e-mail to . For more information on agent forwarding, follow the links below to a brief section in the Secure Shell white paper, and a more in-depth Support tip on agent forwarding for SecureCRT: Secure Shell Overview / Agent and Agent Forwarding -------------------------------------------------------------------- Forum member jason404 asked in August whether keys commonly used in Windows and Mac can be redefined to provide their familiar functions in UNIX terminal sessions -- such as HOME, END, DELETE, and BACKSPACE, as well as the cut/copy/paste keys CTRL+X, CTRL+C, and CTRL+V. Jason404 also wanted to launch SecureFX from a keystroke. The forum discussion may help anyone who is new to changing terminal keyboards, since it addresses not only mapping keys in SecureCRT but also how to get what you need by choosing different emulations and shell settings. In the thread, Todd from VanDyke Software Support also provides a short script to allow a keystroke to launch SecureFX with the same behavior as the SecureFX toolbar button, i.e., open an SFTP connection in SecureFX to the same host connected as the current SecureCRT tab.
