NEWS YOU CAN USE FROM VANDYKE SOFTWARE® This month's headline news is the official release of the VShell® 3.9 server, providing FTPS support on UNIX in addition to Windows. Then we point you to our brand-new YouTube channel for how-to videos on SecureCRT®, with Jake Devenport from the Customer Support group, our in-house productivity and automation expert. The SecureCRT chat window is the subject of another video tip, with a list of old school topics as well. This month's featured forum post discusses ways to clone a session to create many similar sessions. The first call for testers includes an item of special interest for the Mac OS X community. ------------- -------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------- The VShell 3.9 official release offers a special version with FTPS protocol support on UNIX platforms. In addition, the Windows version adds support for Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012 and allows configuration of virtual root permissions using the VShellConfig utility. On all versions, new connection filters have been added to the list of subconfiguration options. VShell with FTPS adds support for FTP over SSL file transfer protocols in which connections are protected by encryption using SSL/TLS (Secure Sockets Layer / Transport Layer Security). VShell with FTPS can also be configured to support plain-text connections via FTP for those who may require legacy connectivity. VShell with FTPS is available on UNIX and Linux platforms including Red Hat, Ubuntu, SUSE Linux, Solaris, FreeBSD, OpenSUSE, and Mac OS X. Adding control over virtual root permissions to the VShellConfig command-line utility gives the administrator another means to configure specific file and folder access permissions on a per-user, per-root basis. Expanding the list of subconfiguration options with connection filters gives administrators the ability to define six different settings for a subset of users, groups, or locations. Download and evaluate the official release of the VShell 3.9 server today. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Over the years we have presented many tips and how-to articles in the newsletter and on our website.
