Why am I getting key exchange failures and what can I do about them?

Several things cause key exchange failures. If you are having problems, check the following conditions.

  1. When you generated your host key, did you use DSA or RSA? Make sure that your client supports whichever algorithm you selected.
  2. Make sure that at least one of the ciphers that your client is using matches at least one of the ciphers selected in the VShell® Control Panel.
  3. Make sure that at least one of the MACs that your client is using matches at least one of the Macs selected in the VShell Control Panel.
  4. Make sure that you have Compression enabled in the VShell Control Panel if your client is requesting compression.
