Can I use the "Scheduled Tasks" function in Windows to automate a file transfer operation by invoking Sfxcl.exe or Aftpcl.exe?

Yes. Tasks that can be run using Sfxcl.exe and Aftpcl.exe can be scheduled under Windows XP/2000/98/ME using the following procedure:

To schedule a new task

Open Scheduled Tasks

- Click Start, click All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click "Scheduled Tasks"

OR

- From the Control Panel, choose "Scheduled Tasks"

Double-click the "Add Scheduled Task" item

Follow the instructions in the Scheduled Task Wizard

- You will need to Browse to Sfxcl.exe when prompted for the program file (i.e., it will not show up in the list).

- On Windows 2000 & XP, be sure to enter the username and password of the user whose configuration you want to use when the program is run.

On Windows 98/ME, the task will use the configuration of the user who created the task.

- Check the "Open advanced properties for this task when I click Finish" check box on the final page of the wizard.

Click "Finish" in the wizard, which will open the task Properties dialog.

- The "Run" field should show the full path to Sfxcl.exe . You will need to modify this field to also include the command-line parameters you want to use with Sfxcl.exe.

Running more than one Sfxcl command line as a single task

The task you create in the wizard only runs one program. To create a task that runs more than one Sfxcl command line you will need to create a batch (.bat) file that contains all of the Sfxcl command lines you want to run. Then, schedule a task to run the batch file.

General Notes

- Confirm that the system date and time on your computer are accurate since Scheduled Tasks relies on this information to run scheduled tasks. To verify or change this information, double-click the time indicator on the taskbar.

- You must supply the password for the account on which you want the the scheduled task to run. The password cannot be blank.

- Windows NT 4.0 scheduled tasks do not support the ability to "Run as" a specific user. Under Windows NT 4.0 the scheduled task will run as the System user and, therefore, will not have access to any configuration information (since Sfxcl does not yet support the ability to specify the configuration path on the command line).
