1. Test Drive Upcoming Features for SecureCRT 6.2

VanDyke Software development needs your help to test SecureCRT in pre-beta releases as we finalize new capabilities. New features that are ready to test now are as follows:

Session management features that will be available soon:

  • Multiple sessions can be edited at the same time, to do things like change the passwords for a group of sessions.
  • An option to remember which sessions were open the last time SecureCRT ran and connect them automatically the next time SecureCRT starts.

Logging enhancements

  • An option to automatically rotate SecureCRT log files each night – you set a variable in the log file name to write log output to a new file daily.
  • Support for creating folders when a log file path is specified that does not already exist, which allows parameter substitutions to be used in folder names for log file paths.

Improved memory usage

  • Scrollback buffer memory is now allocated dynamically, reducing significantly the amount of memory SecureCRT uses.

Serial enhancement

  • Support for changing baud rate of connected serial sessions.

Please let us know if you are interested in testing any of the above features by sending e-mail to Maureen Jett, product director for SecureCRT, at . If you also use SecureFX, let Maureen know so that she can send you a combined installer.

2. Call For Testers: 64-bit Installers

Also available this month for preview and feedback are 64-bit installers for SecureCRT and SecureFX.

Installers for SecureCRT and SecureFX provide native 64-bit versions of the applications. The applications then run in 64-bit Windows as native applications, not in emulation mode.

If you would like to provide feedback on the 64-bit installers, send e-mail to .

Tip: Send Commands To Selected Open SecureCRT Tabs

If you are a network administrator who manages many servers, switches, and routers, you probably repeat the same commands to multiple machines all the time. SecureCRT can help you get through this kind of time-consuming task more easily. You do this by grouping the sessions in one window and then broadcasting commands to all of them at once using the chat window.

4. How To: Enable Remote Execution Using VShell RunAs

The RunAs feature in VShell 3.5 allows users to remotely execute commands as a different user. This is useful for giving access to commands or scripts that require administrative privileges to
non-admin users.

5. Reminder – Schedule Your CRT To SecureCRT Upgrade

Or you have funds in your budget that may not be there next year. When you upgrade to SecureCRT, you get all the protocol support you have with CRT, and these additional benefits:

  • Increased security with Secure Shell
  • Support for SSH1, SSH2, and Telnet/SSL protocols
