1. SecureCRT 6.7 Official – Linux is Ready to Fly!
-----------------------------------------------------------------

The SecureCRT 6.7 release has two main objectives: to deliver a Linux version, and to advance core SecureCRT productivity with a Connect bar and button bar enhancements (see section 3 below for more on the Connect bar).

SecureCRT 6.7 for Linux arrives ready to be an essential part of your network security toolkit. It has all the core strengths of SecureCRT: security, session customization, tabbed interface, scripting, and a productivity focus to save you hours of console drudgery every day. This comment we eceived from one early tester sums up its capability:

"We have implemented our first set of NX-OS devices at work, and without SecureCRT on Linux, I don't know how I could manage them."

On all platforms, the SecureCRT 6.7 Connect bar lets you enter connection information right in the main window toolbar. Button bar improvements include using more than ten buttons, button copy and paste, and move actions. Further, the script recorder now generates Python code as well as VBScript.

Download SecureCRT 6.7 today and see for yourself how capable it is on Linux, Mac, and Windows.

2. They're Official: SecureFX 6.7 and VShell 3.8
--------------------------------------------------------------

The VShell server and SecureFX file transfer client also had official releases in May. VShell 3.8 increases the network administrator's oversight with a real-time connection monitor and improvements to the control of virtual root directories. SecureFX 6.7 saves time with directory bookmarks and a Connect bar (again, see section 3 below).

The VShell real-time connection monitoring tool allows the administrator to view the status of active connections to the VShell server. Virtual root file and folder access permissions can now be set on a per-use, per-root basis. The %USER% variable can be employed to automatically create virtual root paths when the user connects.

SecureFX bookmarks simplify getting back to often-used directories. Select "Add Bookmark" from the right-click menu from a session directory you want to return to. The Connect bar puts a text entry box on the toolbar so you can connect a session quickly without having to open a dialog.

3.
Tip: Maximizing Your Use of the New Connect Bar
----------------------------------------------------------------------

On the surface, the Connect bar, new in SecureCRT and SecureFX 6.7, is pretty straightforward. Enter a hostname, press the ENTER key and the current session window switches to that host. Of course adventurous users will find much more there than that. You can use session names, switch protocols, specify ports, and more.

Heard on the Forums: Reverse Port Forwarding
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Forum member rleyba posted this in May: "Just wanted to know if there are tips or documentation in SecureCRT that will allow reverse tunneling?" VanDyke Software Support manager Jake walks readers through the complexities of configuring and troubleshooting the remote tunnel.

SecureCRT can be configured to run reverse port-forwarded connections if the machine has a proxy server and the SSH server supports remote port forwarding. For any connection not using the localhost or loopback address 127.0.0.1, the session .ini file has to be manually edited.
