1. SecureCRT 6.7 Adds Linux – Plus Connect Bar, More
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Following close on the heels of SecureCRT for Mac, this beta release of SecureCRT 6.7 adds a Linux version for Ubuntu and Red Hat. In addition, the March beta release offers improvements to enhance productivity.

SecureCRT 6.7 for Linux hits the ground running with a tabbed session interface, advanced session management and customization, and local shell access, building on top of fifteen years of SecureCRT refinements.

Across all SecureCRT platforms, the new Connect bar lets you stay in the session window and enter host data right from the toolbar, to make ad hoc connections quickly, even enter command line parameters. The button bar also sees several refinements requested by users. Button bars can now contain more than ten buttons, you can copy and paste buttons from one button bar to another, and you can move buttons within a button bar.

Finally, all platforms now have the ability to record and save scripts. On the Mac and Linux platforms SecureCRT generates Python code, while on Windows you have a choice of Python or VBScript.

2. SecureFX 6.7 Beta Retrieves Locations with Bookmarks
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The recent beta 1 release of SecureFX 6.7 introduces bookmarks, so you can quickly return to often-used directories. Other time-saving enhancements are a Connect bar and logical sorting in the Connect dialog.

While bookmarks save you from repeatedly navigating deep into directory structures, the Connect bar lets you enter connection information right from the main window toolbar. A text field accepts host data and also any SecureCRT command-line parameters.

Monitor Your Server Connections with VShell 3.8 Beta
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

The VShell 3.8 server beta release increases the oversight abilities of network administrators with a real-time connection monitor and improvements to the control of virtual root directories.

The VShell Monitor is a connection monitoring tool to let admins see active VShell connection status.  Next, virtual root file and folder access permissions can now be set on a per-user, per-root basis.  Finally, virtual root paths that use the %USER% variable can be created automatically when the user connects.

Heard on the Forums – Changing Mapped Keys Globally
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Forum member tear42 says, "I need to do a mass change (of) mapped keys under the session options for each of the devices I'm connecting to. I have about200 devices listed, so doing it by hand is just a huge problem."

Do you already know the answer? It's an easy one, but such a timesaver that it seems worth repeating.  You can edit any group of selected sessions in the Connect dialog. Select the sessions you want to change, individually or by folder.  Right-click on the Sessions folder and select Properties.  A dialog reminds you that you are about to edit multiple sessions.  While editing, only the first selected session's properties are displayed.
