For AbsoluteFTP®, Everyday Usability is Top Priority

Albuquerque, N.M. (October 5, 1998) — Van Dyke Technologies, Inc.®, a provider of quality Internet software, announced today the official release of AbsoluteFTP® 1.5 for Windows® NT and Windows 95/98. Version 1.5 makes FTP transfers as simple as possible and offers powerful options such as remote server-to-server transfers that are supported in few competitive FTP clients.

AbsoluteFTP now supports copying files between directories on remote servers, an important file management tool. Remote server-to-server transfers with AbsoluteFTP now execute direct from server to server, taking the FTP client out of the middle. Many other clients make the transfer in two steps, with the client acting as a middleman, which is slower and has more potential for problems. These features make AbsoluteFTP an ideal choice for webmasters and other computer professionals.

AbsoluteFTP 1.5 remains an easy-to-use application with a familiar Explorer interface. "We've worked hard to make AbsoluteFTP as easy for first-time users to use as for webmasters who copy files all day long," said David Coningham, principal engineer for AbsoluteFTP at Van Dyke Technologies. "We're adding very powerful capabilities, but keeping the simple Explorer interface everyone is used to."

Other new features include the ability to open URLs from browsers, a Keep Alive feature that maintains connections that would otherwise fail frequently, easily resuming interrupted transfers for uploads as well as downloads, and Download and Manual Download commands for complete control over transfers.

AbsoluteFTP's core features continue to make it the easiest FTP client to use for everyday transfers. Building on the Explorer interface, AbsoluteFTP supports Network Neighborhood, uses Quick Connect to get access to FTP servers without cumbersome configuration, and has over 200 FTP sites preconfigured for immediate access. AbsoluteFTP uses Explorer's file types, so double-clicking on a file automatically runs its associated application. The intuitive New Session Wizard makes setting up new FTP sites easy. The software also easily handles navigating directories and filenames with spaces.

Other capabilities include extensive firewall and proxy support, support for UNIX, VMS, Windows NT, and MS-DOS FTP servers, and support for PASV connections.

AbsoluteFTP is available for evaluation of a fully functional version with a 30-day license by downloading from the Van Dyke Technologies website.

AbsoluteFTP 1.5 is priced at $29.95 USD for a single license and $275 USD for a 10-user license.
