VSHELL SERVER 2.3 DELIVERS FINE-TUNED CONTROL FOR SECURE SHELL SERVERS

Latest VanDyke Software Server Release Creates Virtual Directories and Discrete Permission Sets

Albuquerque, N.M. (May 6, 2004) — VanDyke Software®, a leader in powerful and affordable Secure Shell solutions, today announced the official release of version 2.3 of its VShell™ SSH2 server for Windows and UNIX platforms including Windows 2003, Red Hat Enterprise, Sun Solaris, AIX, and FreeBSD. Strong customer demand for a server offering support for fine-tuned controls over access and privileges and enterprise-wide authentication led to the features included in this new version.

VShell 2.3 brings to UNIX platforms the ability to precisely define file transfer privileges with the same degree of control offered by the VShell server for Windows. SFTP Virtual Directories allow administrators to provide access to a specific set of folders on the server to each user or group. VShell extends any server's ability to act as a focal point for information sharing in corporate, government, and educational environments, combining simple, intuitive configuration with the strong security of the open Secure Shell protocol.

"VShell 2.3 continues our commitment to meet the evolving needs of our customers," said kelli burkinshaw, VanDyke's Product Director. "Virtual directories provide a degree of control over file transfer access privileges that has never been available on UNIX platforms before. In combination with Access Control Lists, VShell 2.3 establishes a new standard for precision control of secure remote access, file transfer, and data tunneling services."

VShell 2.3 also adds UNIX keyboard-interactive authentication to support RSA Security's SecurID token via the PAM (Pluggable Authentication Module) open standard. Customers have told VanDyke that support for advanced authentication methods like SecurID is needed to make it easier to integrate Secure Shell servers into their enterprise networks.

A fully-functional evaluation copy of VShell can be downloaded from the company's web site: www.vandyke.com. Evaluators have full access to VanDyke's expert technical support to assist with installation, configuration, and testing. VShell is available in three editions, Administrator, Workgroup, or Enterprise, and in Starter Kits which include client licenses for SecureCRT® and SecureFX®. All VShell editions offer the same features and vary only in the number of concurrent connections allowed.
